If you fancy designing and making your own stencils you will need either a scalpel or heat pen to cut them. These blades fit our metal scalpel handle and you change the blade when blunt. The scalpel is best for cutting straight lines and long curvy shapes, the heat pen can be easier to use for smaller details and frilly edges. When cutting with a scalpel, cut onto an appropriate surface – smooth glass and self-heal cutting mats are good. Cut towards yourself and use your other hand to move the stencil film. Keep your guiding hand behind the blade, never in front.
